I hope your new year is off to a tremendous start! I’m happy to report that FJM had a fantastic 2015. We’re proud of our accomplishments and there are a few that we would like to share.
To better serve our customers, our newly implemented Board of Advisors is currently executing operational and marketing functions to help achieve our 2016 goals. We are also pleased to announce the addition of our new Sales Representative, Curtis Levermore, who will help FJM expand its reach throughout New York State. Investments in automating several back end processes and workflows will increase our efficiency and capacity to service our customers better.
Finally, we continue to benefit from manufacturing innovation and product development and are pleased to share a unique opportunity from FJM!
Type-C is Here!
The new USB Type-C connector platform is now available through FJM. These new connectors allow you to go from using several different attachments down to one compact, multi-purpose USB. Backward compatible, they can be used with both hosts and devices to replace the current Type-A and Type-B connector styles, adapters and cables.
Traditional USB cables required one end to be the “host and one end to be the “device”. The host and device were required to be different USB connectors. Now the USB Type-C can be the host and device, allowing for struggle free multipurpose cables.
“Out with the old”
USB Type-C ports have the ability to support a variety of different protocols using “Alternate modes,” which allows you to have adapters that can output HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, or other types of connections from one single USB port.

Highlights include:
-More power (up to 100W)
-Faster transfer speeds (5Gbps or 10Gb/s depending on application)
-Smaller than other USB connectors
-Reversible plug
-24 points of contact
-It is bi-directional (able to send or receive power and data)
-Can transfer power while transmitting data simultaneously
-Faster charging capabilities
USB Type-C just may signal the end of all of those proprietary laptop charging cables allowing for everything to be charged via a standard USB connection.

Available USB Type-C connectors:
USB Type-C Hybrid: Kycon PN KUSBX-SMTTH-CS2-BxxTR. This hybrid version has one row of pins that are SMT and another row that are through hole. These are similar to the apple lightning connector, meaning reversible and faster. Not all manufacturers have this style connector available but you can get these connectors from FJM.
USB Type-C SMT: KUSBX-SMT-CS4-Bxx-TR: This version has two rows of surface mount pins and is also reversible and much faster than standard USB.
USB Type-C Vertical: KUSBVX-SMT-CS-x30TRC: The vertical USB Type-C has two rows of surface mount pins. This version is compatible up to 10 Gbps. The part come with a cap in tape and reel, perfect for applications utilizing pick and place automation.
